The new drawing workshop of Berlino Schule is coming soon! Only 195€ for an outstanding art experience!

Are you tired of drawing from phone pictures and you want to have a real art experience? Do you want to connect more with yourself and others through the spiritual practice of live portrait painting? You belong to the ones who have never attended one lockdown art class on Zoom because you were waiting for the real thing?!

Berlino Schule has just come up with an extraordinary drawing workshop, which is going to be held by Jake Sherwood, an English artist, who has been portraying complete strangers on the streets of London, Neaples and Berlin over the past three years.

The drawing workshop of Berlino Schule

Berlino Schule’s drawing workshop starts on the 25th of March and ends on the 15th of April. The classes take place every Friday, from 19:00 to 21:00 at Berlino Schule, Gryphiustrasse 23 (Berlin). All the material and equipment will be provided by the teacher.

We allow max. 12 participants.

What you will be able to do at the end of the course

  • Understand the difference between ‘mistakes’ and your authentic voice.
  • Understand the three most common areas that cause unbalance to a portrait (Placement, Focus, and Anatomy).
  • Practice the art of listening to the painting and be compassionate with your own opinion.
  • Understand why the eyes, nose and mouth are so different and master all three.
  • Take away two easily applicable techniques for drawing any face in any position.
  • Understand expression in the face and where it ‘collects’.

Who the course is for

The course is for all the ones who:

  • are tired of drawing naked people with no faces at Life Drawing
  • are tired of their own portraits because they end up looking the same
  • refused to attend lockdown art classes on Zoom because they were waiting for the real thing
  • attended may lockdown art classes and now feel the difference with a live class
  • want to make that jump into colour but need a little push
  • would love to draw better portraits of their own family and friends
  • have ever just wanted to draw themselves well in a mirror and love the work they have made

Materials and extras

All the material and equipment will be provided by the teacher (inks, pastels, water pastels, sanguine pencils, 140g watercolour paper). At the end of the workshop, there will be an exhibition in a local restaurant (Spaccanapoli, Wühlischstraße 12, Berlin), an invitation to go live portrait drawing in Mitte with Jake and a document with all the playlist from the classes, links to materials and best places to buy them in Berlin.

The teacher

Jake Sherwood is a London born artist interested in authenticity. Both authenticity’s meaning in portrait painting and its positive power to change our relationship to the world. He has been a live portrait artist for over three years, drawing complete strangers on the street of London, Naples and now Berlin.

Mille Grazie! Italian classes from A1.1 to B2.2 and private classes in Berlin or per Skype

Mille Grazie! The Italian courses of Berlino Schule

Mille Grazie! That’s what non-Italians say when they thank someone. Do you know that the right expression is “Grazie mille!”? Never heard of it?! Really?! Then you should definitely start studying Italian. Berlino Schule offers private and group classes.

1 – Private classes live in Berlin or per Skype

Our private classes are split up in teaching units, each of which consists of 45 minutes class, according to the definition of the Common European Framework of Reference for Knowledge of Languages. Each teaching unit costs 28 euros. We generally recommend booking a minimum of 10 units. In case you decide to book more than 10 units, we are more than happy to offer you a discount (25 euros per unit). After the payment you will be put in contact with the teacher, with whom you can schedule your classes.  If you want, you can have a trial lesson (45 minutes) for 28 €.

2- Berlino Schule Italian group classes

If you are tired of speaking “weird” Italian, you cannot miss the opportunity to sign up for our classes. This year we have come up with the idea of organising more intensive courses to give our students the chance to learn faster and faster (twice a week, either on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, 19:15 to 21:40, two months long). So, you will basically start pronouncing your first words after a couple of classes. If you are wondering how many hours you will have completed at the end of each course, you should know that Berlino Schule courses are split up in teaching units (45 minutes), and each course is composed by 30 units.

Our method relies on the belief that a total immersion is the most effective way to study a language. All our teachers got the Ditals certification, a professional qualification offered by Unistrasi (Università per Stranieri di Siena).

No matter if you are an Erasmus student who wants to start speaking German or a young professional in search for better career perspectives, Berlin is always a good choice. Of course, moving to Berlin is not as easy as one could expect. First of all, you should find an apartment if you do not feel like sleeping under the Oberbaumbrücke. After that, you should register your address in Berlin (have you already heard about the Anmeldung? There is nothing more German than the Anmeldung itself!). Not to mention the fact that if you do not come from an European country, you have to request a visa in order to live for some months on the German soil. So, as you can imagine, the first weeks in Berlin won’t be easy at all. But just when you think you are in the middle of a crisis, Nomaden in Berlin is ready to save your life and your mental health.

  • When booking a relocation package, you can opt for a 1-3 month stay at Nomaden’s self-contained apartments which include a double bed (and all bed linen), a private bathroom and kitchen, flatscreen TV, unlimited WiFi, a personal mailbox, regular apartment cleaning, a staffed front desk, washing facilities on the premises, and much much more!

Party in Berlin? Then, you should learn these 10 typical German expressions

Berlin is famous for its alternative and excessive night life as much as Hamburg and Cologne. The international newspaper Deutsche Welle points out some words we should know to get ready for a night out in the German capital city.

FEIERABEND

Ready for a wild night in town? First thing first, it’s important to be stress-free from work. And Germans have the right word to mean the end of a working day: Feierabend, which literally means “holiday evening”. Unless you are a professional DJ, not every day can end with a party. But every Feierabend, is a good chance to join one.

AUFBREZELN

After work, a pit stop at home is what you need to start your night in the best way. Especially if you’re planning to go to an elegant and chic party. In this case, you should “dress up to kill”. Aufbrezeln just means this. High heels and a touch of lipstick for girls and a fresh shirt for boys are the necessary requirements. You never know where the night will end up. You could meet someone interesting.

VORGLÜHEN

Going out in group can be both funny and cheap. Having a drink or maybe two or three with friends is a good excuse to break the ice. Vorglühen is the German word for this. German bier might not always be loved by everyone but you have to admit that after one or two bottles you feel your feet above the ground. And ready to conquer the world.

WEGBIER

If you take a bier with you before the party, you can call it Wegbier or “take away bier”. In Germany, drinking bier on the streets is legal, as long as you behave and keep yourselves together.

AFTER-WORK PARTY

The number of after-work parties is increasing in the last years. What seems to be a retirement party, it is an actual after work party.

TÜRSTEHER

If you are going to a chic area of Berlin and Hamburg, it’s necessary to pass the bouncers which in German are called “Türsteher”. It literally means “the one who stays at the door” and somehow, surveils it.

AUF EX

If your German friends tell you to finish your drink “auf ex”, you better be ready to what is going to happen next. It believed to come from Latin but there is no document to prove it. Although, the translation is clear: kill your drink in one sip.

DÄMMERUNG

It’s the moment between day and night. And between night and day. So the beginning and the end of the day in one word. And if it was a cool night, it’s more likely that it will finish in the Dammerung.

NACHTSCHWÄRMER

The moment between twilight and down is when the night owls come out from their caves, offices and houses and head to bars, pubs and clubs. In one hand, residents complain about the screams and noise in the night. But in the other hand, bars’owners and taxi drivers thank the NachtSCHWÄRMER for their contribute to the city’s finance.

KATER

The term has two meanings and somehow, a bit ambuguous. Kater is the German version of ‘male cat’ but it means ‘hangover’ as well. The feeling that everyone knows after a wild night out. Also, Kater, comes from the Greek word ‘catarrh’. Which seems weird. The right English word is Hangover but, anyway, who cares about the meaning? Especially after an amazing night.
